I lost my Grandmother a year ago to an illness that has no respect. I loved her very much and I still do. She was a strong, loving and caring woman who impacted a lot of lives. I cried alot and still do every now and then when I listen to "Welcome to Zion" by Frank Edwards. She liked the song so much.
Last year when I told people that my grandma had passed on, the first question they asked was "How old was she?"
"85" I would reply.
Then they would say" Haba! She was old now!"
They obviously didn't understand that if it were in my power, she would still be alive and healthy. It had nothing to do with age.
We still talk about Granny like she's alive. During the holiday I was in the market with my Mum and I saw this really nice- looking Stock fish. Granny LOVED stock fish, I never understood why.
"Granny would like this stock fish" I said not
" Granny would have loved this stock fish"
To me sometimes She's still alive! The hardest part was seeing her house empty, knowing I would never go into her pink themed room and laugh at her jokes while she eats her slices of cheese on crackers with a hot cup of weak tea and an orange on the side in an impeccably neat tray.
She had a word for every moment, her stories were all unique and she even had terms for some words (eg: tontolo for those who understand). She loved her family and kept us In union.
For everyone especially family members who still grieve, just recall the glad moments and relive them. Granny's Fine!
A moment of silence for Mrs Minella Marcia Eze (nee Toby)
WE LOVE YOU GRANNY!

Ann-marcia
This is a combination of both of my grandmothers names. They were very different women but both strong willed. Even as they lie in rest, I'm inspired by their strengths.
I think of the civil war and the chaos that occurred in Nigeria between 1967 and 1970 involving all Nigerians. The struggle, The corpses, The tears, The indescribable pain.
Our grandparents experienced all of this, families were torn apart, teenage boys were taken from their homes and so much more. For those of us who met our grandparents, the story is unabridged.
Give your Grandmother a "twale" where ever she might be. She took care of her family through out those trying times and that's why you can read this ( Thank God ).
We all need this strengths as women not forgetting the Grace of God to guide our intuitive perceptions.
"She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar"
"She also rises while it is yet night,
And provides food for her household
And a portion for her servants"
"She girds herself with strength
And strengthens her arms"
"Strength and honour are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come"
"She watches over the ways of her
Household
And does not eat the bread of idleness
"Her children call her blessed
Her husband praises her greatly"
Proverbs 31
